Treat workers humanely: PM

Online Report
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today called upon the industrialists to treat workers humanely and meet their fundamental needs, and requested the labourers not to create anarchy that destroys Bangladesh ’s export demands overseas.
“Particularly, I request the garment owners to be more humane towards the workers. The workers should also be patient and solve any problems through discussions so that the export-oriented industries are not affected,” she said at a May Day discussion, greeting the workers at home and abroad on the historic day.
At the programme organised by the labour and employment ministry at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital, the premier said the government will gradually open all the closed mills to create employment.
Hasina announced that the government would extend retirement age of the factory workers from 57 to 60, and ensure wages in line with market prices.
Labour and Employment Minister Khandokar Musharraf Hossain, State Minister Monnujan Sufian, government officials, representatives of trade unions and employers were present at the discussion.
