The Nation will observe mournful Jail Killing Day tomorrow
Awami League & its associate organizations have drawn up various programs to observe the day
The nation will observe the mournful Jail Killing Day tomorrow by paying rich tributes to four national leaders and Liberation War heroes, who were brutally murdered inside the Dhaka Central Jail in 1975. The four national leaders, who led the country's independence war when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was detained by Pakistani junta, were sent to jail after the gruesome killing of Father of the Nation along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975. The four celebrated sons of the soil-- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, A H M Quamruzzaman and Captain Mansur Ali-- were shot dead following repeated bayonet charges on the fateful day, less than three months (79) after the August 15 massacre. The anti-liberation reactionary and counter-revolutionary forces along with junior and mid-level military officials with the blessings of the then self-proclaimed president Khondoker Mushtaq Ahmed, the most hated betrayer member of the Banagabandhu's cabinet, killed the four national leaders in cells of the Dhaka Central Jail. Syed Nazrul Islam was the acting president of Bangladesh government in exile during the nine-month sanguinary battle as the Pakistani military junta arrested the country's founding father on the night of March 25, 1971 from his historic Dhanmondi residence soon after his formal declaration of independence. Being the prime minister of the government in exile, popularly known as the Mujibnagar government, Tajuddin Ahmed played a key-role in materializing the dreams of millions of freedom-loving people to establish an independent Bangladesh. A H M Quamruzzmaan and Captain Mansur Ali, close associates of Bangabandhu, were also in vital position to formulate the policies and strategies of the guerrilla warfare against the Pakistan Army equipped with modern weapons.
Bangladesh Awami League (AL), its associate organisations and other socio- political bodies have drawn up an elaborate programme to observe the day in a befitting manner.
The programme includes hoisting of national and party flags at half-mast at Bangabandhu Bhaban, central AL office and other party offices at 7 am. Black flags will also be hoisted. Wreaths will be placed at the graves of the martyrs of August 15 and the three national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain Mansur Ali at the Banani Graveyard in Dhaka city in the morning.
Wreaths will be also laid at the grave of A H M Quamruzzaman, the other national leader, at Qadirganj Graveyard in Rajshahi city. Assembly at Bangabandhu Bhaban and placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at 7:01 am, offering of Fateha and milad mahfil at the graves of the martyred leaders at Banani graveyard at 7:30 am are other programmes of the day. AL will hold a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre here at 3:30 pm. AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the meeting as the chief guest.
AL General Secretary and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam called upon the leaders and activists of all party units and associate organisations to observe the Jail Killing Day with due respect and solemnity, taking the countrymen with them.
Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jatiya Sramik League, Bangladesh Krishak League, Bangladesh Awami Sechchhasebak League, Jubo Mohila League, Jatiya Rickshaw Sramik League, Bangladesh Bastuhara Samity, Jatiya Char Neta Parishad, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Muktijoddha Sanghati Parishad and other associate organisations will join the central programme side by side observing separate programmes. These include discussions, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Bhaban and graves of the four national leaders, milad mahfils and feeding of the destitute.
Marking the day, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other TV channels and radio stations will air special programmes. Newspapers will publish articles on the four national leaders.
জেলহত্যা দিবস উপলক্ষে আওয়ামী লীগের কর্মসূচি
ঢাকা, ৩ নভেম্বর জেলহত্যা দিবস উপলক্ষে আওয়ামী লীগ বিস্তারিত কর্মসূচি নিয়েছে। ১৯৭৫ সালে বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যা-পরবর্তী পরিস্থিতিতে এই দিনে ঢাকা কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগারে বন্দি অবস্থায় হত্যা করা হয় মুক্তিযুদ্ধ পরিচালনাকারী জাতীয় চার নেতাকে। মঙ্গলবার ভোর সাতটায় বঙ্গবন্ধু ভবন ও আওয়ামী লীগের কেন্দ্রীয় কার্যালয়সহ দেশের সব কার্যালয়ে জাতীয় ও দলীয় পতাকা অর্ধনমিত এবং কালো পতাকা উত্তোলন, সকাল সাতটা এক মিনিটে ধানমন্ডির ৩২ নম্বরে বঙ্গবন্ধুর প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ, সকাল সাড়ে সাতটায় বনানী কবরস্থানে জাতীয় নেতাদের কবরে শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করা হবে। বিকাল সাড়ে তিনটায় রাজধানীর বঙ্গবন্ধু আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলন কেন্দ্রে আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। এতে প্রধান অতিথি হিসাবে উপস্থিত থাকবেন আওয়ামী লীগ সভানেত্রী ও প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা। ৩ নভেম্বর জেলের ভেতরে বাংলাদেশের প্রথম (অস্থায়ী) রাষ্ট্রপতি সৈয়দ নজরুল ইসলাম, প্রধানমন্ত্রী তাজউদ্দীন আহমদ, মন্ত্রিসভার সদস্য ক্যাপ্টেন এম মনসুর আলী এবং এ এইচ এম কামরুজ্জামানকে হত্যা করা হয়। রাষ্ট্রপতি ও প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বাণী জেল হত্যা দিবস উপলক্ষে রাষ্ট্রপতি মো. জিল্লুর রহমান ও প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা আলাদা আলাদা বাণী দিয়েছেন। রাষ্ট্রপতি তার বাণীতে চার নেতাকে শ্রদ্ধার সঙ্গে স্মরণ করে বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধুর অবর্তমানে মুজিব নগর সরকার গঠন, মুক্তিযুদ্ধ পরিচালনা ও দেশকে সঠিক দিক নির্দেশনা দেওয়ার জন্য জাতি তাদের শ্রদ্ধাভরে স্মরণ করবে। তিনি বলেন, স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বকে বিপন্ন করার পাশাপাশি জাতিকে নেতৃত্বহীন করার লক্ষ্যে বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার ধারাবাহিকতায় চার নেতাকে নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করা হয়। প্রধানমন্ত্রী তার বাণীতে বলেন, কারাগারের নির্জন প্রকোষ্ঠে জাতীয় চার নেতা হত্যাকাণ্ড ছিল বঙ্গবন্ধুকে সপরিবারে হত্যার ধারাবাহিকতারই অংশ। এর মাধ্যমে ষড়যন্ত্রকারীরা আওয়ামী লীগের নাম চিরতরে মুছে ফেলার এবং বাঙালি জাতিকে নেতৃত্বশূন্য করার অপচেষ্টা চালিয়েছিল। বঙ্গবন্ধুর হত্যা ও জেল হত্যা মামলার রায় কার্যকর এবং যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচার যাতে না হয় সেজন্য 'প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল চক্র' সন্ত্রাসের রাজত্ব কায়েম করার গভীর ষড়যন্ত্রে লিপ্ত রয়েছে বলে তিনি অভিযোগ করেন।
